Many Thai employers now ask about observed teaching practice, and an online certificate cannot show any. It costs more, and what you get is real classroom teaching practice, job placement support in some of Thailand's top schools and the confidence to teach anywhere in the world.

The Essential Story

We started in 2006 with the goal to connect schools in Thailand with qualified, dependable teachers.

First came Essential Educational Staffing. Then, to meet growing demand, we launched Essential TEFL a 120-hour, in-person course with real classroom practice and job placement support.

Native English speakers with a bachelor's degree are in high demand in Thailand, and our graduates who meet those criteria are placed quickly. Essential Educational Staffing supports every eligible graduate through CV preparation, interviews and introductions to schools.

We also opened Kidsangsan Language School, fully accredited by the Thai Ministry of Education, to support our TEFL course.

We are authorised to deliver the Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (RQF), making us the only training centre in Bangkok offering this recognised qualification.

Make a Difference Through Teaching

Many of our trainees give back by volunteering in Thai schools, orphanages, and community centres. It’s a great way to support local education and connect with the community.

Volunteering is optional, but highly encouraged. It helps you build confidence, strengthen your teaching skills, and gain a deeper understanding of Thai life.

Some trainees move directly into paid jobs. Others start with volunteering to gain experience first. Both paths lead to meaningful growth for you and the students you teach. We support the Bangkok Community Foundation .

    TEFL classes prepare you to teach English as a foreign language. Training normally covers lesson planning, classroom management, grammar, teaching methods and practical classroom experience.

  • Q. How long does the Essential TEFL course take? ▼

    The Essential TEFL course is completed in four weeks and includes 120 hours of in-person training and practical classroom experience.

  • Q. Is a TEFL certificate the same as a Thai teaching licence? ▼

    No. A TEFL certificate provides training in teaching English as a foreign language. A Thai teaching licence or temporary teaching permit is a separate requirement that depends on the teacher, employer and current Thai regulations.

  • Q. What is included in the 120-hour TEFL course? ▼

    The course includes 120 hours of in-person training, lesson planning, teaching methods, classroom management, real classroom teaching practice, visa guidance and job placement support.

  • Q. Is TEFL the same as TESOL? ▼

    In practice, yes. Thai schools use TEFL and TESOL interchangeably. Employers are more interested in the number of training hours, the accreditation behind the course and the amount of observed teaching practice with real students.

  • Q. Do I need a degree to teach English in Thailand? ▼

    Most Thai schools ask for a degree because it is required for a work permit in many cases. Teaching without a degree is possible in some circumstances, but opportunities are more limited. Contact us before enrolling and we will give you an honest assessment of your options.

  • Q. Is a job guaranteed after the TEFL course? ▼

    No. Essential Educational Staffing provides job placement support for eligible graduates, including CV preparation, interview guidance and introductions to suitable schools. The final hiring decision is always made by the school.

  • Q. What are the requirements to teach English in Thailand? ▼

    Most positions require a recognised TEFL certificate, fluency in English and a degree for work permit purposes. Schools also require a criminal background check and the relevant non-B visa and work permit, which we guide graduates through.
